Overview
Lower Dolpo is a remote and mystical region between the Dhaulagiri range and the Tibetan Plateau, often called the “last enclave of pure Tibetan culture.” Open to foreigners only since 1996, it preserves ancient Bon and Buddhist traditions at altitudes above 4,300m, with landscapes and culture featured in The Snow Leopard and Himalaya film.
The trek begins with flights to Nepalgunj and Juphal, then follows rugged trails through isolated Tibetan-influenced villages, high mountain passes like Numa La and Baga La, ancient monasteries, and the stunning Phoksundo Lake before returning to Juphal.
Note: This is a high-altitude camping trek above 5,000m requiring good fitness, acclimatization, experienced guides, and travel insurance. Flights are weather-dependent, so buffer days are recommended.
